AÏTA MON AMOUR

An invisible bridge between the past and the present

With Aïta Mon Amour, Widad Mjama and Khalil Epi bridge the gap between the present and the distant past by drawing on the traditional Moroccan Aïta (lamentations). These songs were passed down from woman to woman and originate from the Shikhats (or Cheikhates), "feminist" singers from the 12th century who fought against oppression and injustice.

Widad and Khalil rescue this centuries-old poetry from oblivion by blending contemporary electronic sounds with traditional instruments, thus passing the torch between generations with dignity.

Aïta Mon Amour radiates authentic feminism and breathes new life into a struggle that is timeless.

Widad Mjama - vocals
Khalil Epi - outar, mandole, machines, and backing vocals
