MBONGWANA STAR

Mbongwana Star is een 7-koppige band uit Congo. Coco Ngambali en Theo Nzonza stonden 15 jaar geleden aan de wieg van de legendarische band  Staff Benda Bilili. Een band die geïnspireerd was door de Congolese rumba (denk aan Franco of Tabu Ley Rocherau). Staff Benda Bilili bracht twee albums uit, kende een enorm succes, trok op wereldtoer … maar ging helaas aan de roem ten onder.  Het voorbije jaar doken beiden opnieuw op en na een ontmoeting met de Parijse producer Liam Farrell, aka Doctor L, stampten ze een beloftevolle nieuwe band uit de grond : MBONGWANA STAR.

Mbongwana Star is a 7-headed band from Congo.  Coco Ngambali and Theo Nzonza saw the birth of the legendary band Staff Benda Bilili 15 years ago, a band that was inspired by the Congolese rumba (think of Franco or Tabu Ley Rocherau). Staff Benda Bilili released two albums, became a massive hit, left on a world tour …but unfortunately they went down under their own success. The previous year they both showed up again and after a meeting with the Parisian producer Liam Farell, aka Doctor L, they stomped out a promising new band: MBONGWANA STAR.
