Shiraz Ensemble ft. Amir Asna-Ashari

Music from the city of roses and nightingales

The Shiraz Ensemble, consisting from talented young musicians from Shiraz, (province of Fars) draws on the enormous wealth that the Iranian musical heritage has to offer. Both the Persian classical tradition as the regional and ethno-cultural diversity offer endless possibilities to get started creatively. The Shiraz Ensemble does it by connecting  modes, melodies, rhythms and metra from the different traditions in instrumental and vocal music with an anthology of Persian classical and contemporary poetry. The subjects and themes addressed in these poems, receive an appropriate tone based on historical and contemporary musical ideas. New compositions are interspersed with traditional improvisations according to the rules of the art of the persian classical music. The Shiraz Ensemble attempts thereby to create new atmospheres, and aims to renew the rich potential that is embedded in the Iranian music.
