PENI CANDRA RINI & ADE SUHARTO - EUROPALIA INDONESIA

Ontosoroh

The Indonesian singer and composer Peni Candra Rini has three albums to her name. She worked with renowned artists such as Robert Wilson, Rahayu Supanggah and Iain Grandage and was already featured at various international music festivals. Peni Candra Rini is one of the rare contemporary singers who masters the sindhen, a Javanese vocal style for women's voices.
For the show ONTOSOROH Peni unites her forces with those of the Australian dancer and choreographer Ade Suharto. Together they were  inspired by the life of Nyai Ontosoroh, the heroine who fought against the colonial powers in This Earth of Mankind, the literature classic of Pramoedya Ananta Toer. The performance mixes Ade's classical Javanese dance with the traditional and contemporary compositions and Peni's splendid voice.
