KARDEȘ TÜRKÜLER

sparkling songs of brotherhood

This exceptional ensemble has been performing songs and music from the cultural melting pot of Anatolia for over 20 years. Sparkling, colorful and in different languages: Turkish, Kurdish, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Laz, Greek and Romanes. The group was founded in 1993 by a group of students from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul.

With a beautiful program full of music and singing, the ensemble lives up to its name: Kardeș Türküler literally means "songs of brotherhood". Kardeș Türküler makes an optimistic musical plea for multiculturalism and shows Turkey in all its facets.

Kardeș Türküler combines enthusiasm and idealism with solid songs, beautiful lyrics and stunning interpretations. Some may remember the strong singers Feryal Öney and Fehmiye Çelik (the singer from Gayda İstanbul> see Hidirellez 2019) who already performed here in a previous edition of İstanbul Ekspres (2009). Fans of the first hour probably even remember the concerts in Burgstraat (1995) and Torrepoort (1999).

After all these years, the group still attracts thousands of people, both in Turkey itself and internationally. Also in Ghent it is guaranteed a nice reunion ...

The band released 8 albums (including 2 soundtrack albums) on the Kalan Music label, the most recent “Yol” in 2017, leading up to the group's 25th birthday in 2018.

Fehmiye Celik (vocals), Feryal Öney (vocals), Boran Mert (bağlama), Ayhan Akkaya (bass guitar), Burcu Yankın Alkış (percussion), Metehan Dada (violin), Onur Çalışkan (sax & clarinet), Selda Ozturk (percussion) singing) and Vedat Yildirim (singing)
