pizziche, tammuriate & tarantelle

This colorful musical company from Sicily was discovered by our Ghent-based violinist-explorer Wouter Vandenabeele.

I Re Saltati (whether these kings have been skipped or loosened, let's not mention that  here for the time being) bring pizzica, tammuriata, tarantella and other traditional dance music from the extreme South of the Italian peninsula. When we asked them for an extra word of explanation we received this as an answer:

Cumpari janu cu tambureddu sdisola i mura du casteddu
u zu'giggi marranzanu cettu ci teni testa a cumpari janu.
E se don ricu cu l'ogganettu fa pattiri u ballettu
giacuminu cu flautu duci, sciogghi u cori di li carusiā€¦
