ELENA LEDDA QUINTET (MIDIMIX #02)

Elena Ledda was born near Cagliari (Sardinia), where later she would study at the ‘Pier Luigi da Palestrina conservatory’.  Although her dramatic soprano voice was exceptionally suited for the lyrical opera repertory, Elena Ledda was attired very early to the musical tradition of her birth region. She finally chose for a career that situates itself within this framework. In the beginning of the 80’s she founded, together with the Sardinian musician Mauro Palmas, the group Suonoficinas.
Between her numerous collaborations (some more known than others), we would like to note that with Fabrizio de André, Lester Bowie, the Israeli singer Noa, Maria del Mar Bonet, Gianfranco Cabiddu and Paolo Fresu, (Sonos de Memoria) , Savina Yannatou (Visioni di Sardegna), Andreas Vollenweider, Don Cherry, Nana Vasconcelos, Andrea Parodi, Antonio Placer (see concert on 04.04.17 !) en since recently with Lucilla Galeazzi and Riccardo Tesi for the project O Bella Ciao.

Elena Ledda has launched a dozen of records and given thousands of concerts in Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Norway, Greece, UK, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, VS, Australia, Argentina, Brasil, Tunesia, Russia, Algeria, Morocco, Hungary, Singapore, Poland and of course Belgium (although it has been quite a while since she put foot on our soil).
The renown British music journalist Andy Kershaw wrote the following on Elena Ledda : “When I went to Sardinia to make a program on the music of Sardinia, people had me listen to the music of Elena Ledda. I was blown away by her voice. Elena and her band made me listen to the typical music of Sardinia. They have achieved a truly unique and refreshing result. Their music is clearly anchored in the Sardinian tradition, but at the same time incredibly contemporary and modern.

With Amaius, Elena Ledda brings universal stories on birth, life and death, sometimes bitter, then sweet again, sung in the strange language of Sardinia, linked to the local traditions of the wonderful island and bathing in the atmosphere of sultry and contemporary Mediterranean sounds. She is professionally accompanied by Mauro Palmas (mandola), Silvano Lobina (bas), Simonetta Soro (vocals) en Marcello Peghin (guitar). Together they are the Elena Ledda Quintetto!
