Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek is well on his way to become Turkey's latest pop sensation. This gang with members from all over Europe relies on Turkish oldies from Selda Bağcan, Barış Manço and Moğollar. But they also add their own work. Think of psychedelic saz melodies, a tight rhythm section and hypnotic organ tunes.

In the Istanbul underground, Gaye Su Akyol exudes forcefully in the firmament. Akyol interweaves Turkish traditional music from her youth with Berlin cabaret from the 1930s, a dash of social criticism, sensual psychorock and a touch of psychedelics. Expect singing organs, spiky guitars and her characteristic, slightly hoarse voice.

Istanbul is a bit of everything. A bit Middle East, a bit of the West. Kenan Erer dances on the bridge that connects these cultures. His "Bosporus Beats" float between rousing indie rock and psychedelic herb.
Since the Brussels Kenan, as a five-year-old, learned to play darbuka with the Roma, the exuberant party music does not let him go. He plays everywhere in the world, where the wind brings him. His equally colorful companions add rock 'n' roll and Bulgarian balkan rhythms.

This ninth edition of the Istanbul Ekspres festival is again as diverse as the city itself. All facets are included in the program.
