DÁLAVA ft. Julia Úlehla & Aram Bajakian

The Book of Transfigurations – cd-presentation

Dálava is a cooperation between singer Julia Úlehla & guitarist Aram Bajakian. Together they revive ancient folk melodies from Moravia (Czech Republic).

Guitarist Aram Bajakian played together with Velvet Underground-front man Lou Reed during his latst tours in 2011 and 2012. After Reed’s death in 2013, Bajakian toured considerable time with multiple-Grammy-award-winnar Diana Krall. Other memorable collaborations are those with Rufus Wainwright, Yusef Lateef, John Zorn and Frank London to name just a few. Dálava is a tribute to Moravian folk music. The great-grandfather of Julia Ulehla - singer of Dálava and wife of Bajakian - collected dozens of traditional melodies and kept them for posterity. His great-granddaughter and her partner convert them over 100 years later in an extremely moving musical language, ranging from avant-garde to noise rock, with a hint of lyrical cacophony here and there.

After a first album Dálava’ (2014), the album ‘The Book of Transfigurations’ was recently released.
