Iranian classical and regional traditions

Ali-Akbar Shekarchi (kamanche) and his daughter Asareh (vocals) are acompanied by  Mohammad Ghavihelm (tombak) in a programme that combines the  classical with the popular. In the first part the classical tradition is discussed, in which the music is created by improvisation on melodies from the historical Radif repertory,  on classic Persian poems. In the second part the company focusses on  the regional traditions of the Iranian region Lorestan,Where the family  Shekarchi originates from. Traditional music from the Lorren, Bakhtiari’s and Lakken, sung in the local dialects , offers a glimpse at the many regional traditions Iran has to offer.
