HERITAGE DAY FLANDERS 24

EN ROUTE!

For years, the sounds of generators echoed in this power plant. After being repurposed as a cultural center, De Centrale has been creating fascinating musical dynamics and cross-pollinations since 1994. Always on the move for new encounters and new audiences: together 'en route'.

Construction of this first Ghent alternating current power plant began in 1920. Due to industrial developments, it evolved from a low-pressure plant to a diesel plant in 1968. Today, in addition to an impressive, industrial site from the "coal era," there are also concert halls and several multipurpose spaces.

On Open Monument Day, we take you 'en route' along the industrial echoes of the past and meet musicians on their musical 'routes' from today to tomorrow.

Heritage Day is the biggest one-day cultural event held in Flanders. This is an opportunity to showcase true heritage treasures. Each year, Heritage Day generates huge interest from the public as well as the media. Heritage Day is the living proof that both well-known and lesser-known monuments in Flanders continue to fascinate people. The recipe for Heritage Day remains highly successful: on the 2nd Sunday in September hundreds of heritage sites throughout Flanders are open to visitors, free of charge.
