Each month, our neighbour Steven De Bruyn invites in ENTR a musical soulmate he wants to get to know or has met before (and wants to meet again) for a musical exchange.
Passionate musicians and songwriters from all corners of the world and washed up touring musicians on their day off. Just like the open kitchen of ENTR conjures the world to your tastebuds, you will be travelling with your eyes closed and your ears open. Let yourself be taken into tow on this grooving world trip!
Steven de bruyn is a passionate Belgium harmonium player. Mid ‘90s he started to perform, first as accompanier of bluessinger Roland, with whom he would keep collaborating the rest of his career. In 1996, De Bruyn founded blues rock group El Fish who, in 1998, won a ZAMU Award as “ best live-act” and (with Roland) in 2001 a prize in the categorie “best roots”. Alessandro Florio originates from Amalfi, he studied at the jazz school in Milan (ao with Franco Cerri and Enrico Intra), played for some time in the Franco Cerri Guitar Ensemble and began to compose his own music. He founded the Alessandro Florio trio and the Urban Jazz Trio and together with these musicians he foamed the jazz clubs and festivals throughout the Italian peninsula.
Then he went back to study. He chose the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen under the direction of Frank Wingold and Freddy Bryant. He focused on the work of Thelonouis Monk and obtained his Bachelor and Master Degree. During this master, Florio could further develop musically in New York. He took lessons with Peter Bernstein, Freddie Byrant, Mark Whitfield, Paul Bollenback and Ed Cherry.
He was allowed to live out with famous artists from the New York jazz scene like Alex Sipiagin, Mark Gross, Robin Eubanks, Dave Berkman, JD Walter, Ali Jackson, ...
These encounters brought him to tour around the world: New York, New Jersey, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, of course his homeland, Greece, Spain, Austria, Indonesia, Romania, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
He released two albums as band leader: "Taneda" (2014), together with the bass player Mattia Magatelli and (this year) "Roots Interchange", recorded in New York and Italy with the rhythm section of Pat Martino, featuring Pat Bianchi on hammond and Carmen Intorre on the drums.
