MuSiKa is a unique collaboration between the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent and Intercultural Music Center De Centrale. The project brings together two different art forms - music and visual art. Shalan Alhamwy and Ehsan Yadollahi give voice to part of the MSK collection. This way , as a visitor, you can experience the collection in a different way.
An encounter of styles and cultures
De Centrale took on the musical part and pushed two promising musicians forward. Shalan Alhamwy, born in Homs (Syria), is a violinist and composer. He grew up with Arabic music, and later studied classical Western music. Shalan therefore controls both musical traditions. Ehsan Yadollahi is an Iranian musician, skilled in playing tar and setar (Persian long-necked locks). His music usually arises through improvisation based on different themes and motifs, often based on Iranian and Western poetry.
Both musicians transcend booths, genres and cultures. That makes the project, together with the combination of music and visual art, fascinating for both young and less young. How do they sound the works? To which inner places do the musicians take us? Will it become intense, melancholic or just heart-warming? After the try-out in the MSK on December 17th, the official launch of the MuSiKa project in extensive staffing is given today in De Centrale.
With Shalan Alhamwy (violin), Ehsan Yadollahi (tar & setar), Laura De Bruyn (violin), Liesbeth Lambrecht (viola), Jasmijn Lootens (cello), Keivan Vala (guitar), Tammam Ramadan (ney), Yamen Martini (trumpet) and Rossana Azhandeh( vocals)
"The Calvary of Bosch is one of the selected works. I find it really challenging to write music with a work of art, because the work itself says a lot " - Shalan Alhamwy
