Jaune Toujours evolved from a band with Brussels cult status to an internationally appreciated quality band within the live circuit. Their explosive, urban mix of musical genres and languages captivates audiences and the press far beyond the national borders. With the energy of a rock group (without guitars!) The improvisation enjoyment of a jazz combo, the open-mindedness of a world music group and the charisma of the street musician, they belt their poetically pertinent view of society from the roofs. Add a pinch of typical Brussels self-relativation and you know which party you are at. As can also be heard on their latest album Europeana.
The title of their new album 'Europeana' is related to current events, but also to Jaune Toujours tours in Canada, where the public (mostly 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation European migrants) both familiarize themselves with their music (the sounds and instruments of "The old continent") as exotic (a very own, current mix, distilled from all sorts of influences). And since it is difficult to class Jaune Toujours anyway, why not come up with a new musical term? Europeana, by analogy with or just against a style like Americana.
Expect true Europeana: kick-ass roots on accordion, drum, bass and wind instruments, straight from the heart of Europe. No language or other borders with texts in French, English and Dutch.
The Ledebirds, a colorful gang from Ledeberg, is 10 years old! They browse through the repertoire they learned from musicians with roots in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Turkey, the Middle East, ... and occasionally apply minimalistic recipes. Tonight, Yamen Martini is a guest on trumpet!
