Jahida Wehbe & Osama Abdulrasol Sextet (#VdF)

Voor haar jongste project SHAHD (tevens de naam van haar laatste in 2014 verschenen cd) interpreteert de Libanese zangeres Jahida Wehbe het werk van een aantal wereldberoemde dichters: Pablo Neruda (Chili), Mahmoud Darwish (Palestina), Adonis (Syrië), Talal Haidar (Libanon), Forough Farrokhzad (Iran), Ounsi el Haj (Libanon) , Ahmad Ramy (Egypte) en Wallada bint al-Mustakfi (Al-Andalus 11de eeuw).  Jahida Wehbe componeerde bijna alle muziek zelf, behalve één nummer van Riad el Sonbati en één liedje van “Umm Kulthum” die natuurlijk niet kon ontbreken.  Jahida Wehbe wordt begeleid door het Osama Abdulrasol Ensemble, die ook het album co-produceerde en –arrangeerde in samenwerking met Philippe Thuriot en de voormalig Gentse stadscomponist en muzikale duizendpoot Dick van der Harst.
Jahida Wehbe zong al op alle grote festivals en prestigieuze podia in het Midden-Oosten, maar ook in het Westen geniet ze een zekere populariteit ( ze toerde verschillende keren in Europa, Amerika en Australië) en ze wordt vaak in één adem genoemd met die andere legendarische zangeres Umm Kulthum.  Op haar vele buitenlandse tours draagt ze steeds de liefde voor haar land en volk én een boodschap van broederschap en vrede met zich mee.

For her latest project SHAHD (also the name of her latest album, which was released in 2014) Lebanese singer Jahida Wehbe interprets the work of a number of world famous poets such as Pablo Neruda( Chile), Mahmoud Derwish( Palestine), Forough Farrokhzad (Iran) en Wallada bint al-Mustakfi (Al-Andalus 11thcentury).  Jahida Wehbe composed almost all the music by herself, except one song by Riad el Sonbati and one song from Umm Kalthum, which obviously could not be missing.
Jahida Wehbe is accompanied by the Osama Abdulrasol ensemble, who also co-produced and co- arranged  the album   in collaboration with Phillipe Thuriot  and the former “Ghent City-composer” Dick Van Der Harst.
